MANUFACTURING METHODS
First of all, it’s important to remember that this method was taught to us over 15 years by Mr. Marcel Fiandrino who himself had learned it from his father and grandfather (“History of the company” section).
We can build or transform a tennis court from a empty lot, a hard court (porous, quick, green set...), a sotomanto court, a craon court, synthetic court, a “soft” tennis or granite soil court, etc.. Sometimes it is necessary to evacuate the old material entirely (Grasse Tennis Club: about 100 tons of sotomanto evacuated for the court), and other times we can “lean on” the existing court (Cap d’Ail Tennis Club starting from a “soft” tennis court and the Sophia Country Club starting from granite soil).
Whatever the initial design may be, we create or precisely verify the necessary grading for rainwater evacuation using a theodolite. Then, after having created or verified the starting platform, we create or level the filter entirely by hand, square meter by square meter, always respecting the grading. Then we always apply by hand only, again square meter by square meter, the top layer in perfectly regular quantity over the entire court surface with the material selected to adapt to your climate. We proceed by fixing this layer with a very light mechanical roller and following a very precise procedure. We finish the court by placing the lines, that we recommend in woven nylon, held in place by around 6000 galvanized nails (nailed one by one with a little hammer!) and spreading crushed brick according to our traditional ritual. For all these manufacturing operations we NEVER use heavy engines (about 1 ton) that could deteriorate the under layers, diminish drainage capacity or alter the future court performance.
We aren’t able to give more details about our methods for fear of being copied, but we ask that you contact us or visit us so that we might explain our work more precisely to you. (“Our plusses” heading).
